  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Americans spend over $90 billion dollars on alcohol each year.
  • Consuming beer after having already consumed hard liquor gives the body less time to process the toxins contained in the alcohol consumed.
  • During a cocaine binge the drug is taken repeatedly for many hours or even days and users often experience increasing restlessness, irritability and paranoia and even paranoid psychosis in some cases with auditory hallucinations and a disconnection with reality.
  • Crack cocaine arrests in 2002 accounted for 15% of the Drug Enforcement Administrations arrests that year.
  • In order to combat the dramatic increase in accidental drug overdose deaths throughout the U.S., the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is currently recommending tighter regulations, improving awareness through drug education, and supporting professional drug treatment for drug dependence.

Hospital Inpatient Programs

Hospital inpatient drug treatment is done in a hospital or similar setting and is supervised by doctors and other medical staff. Hospital inpatient treatment is often necessary in the beginning stages of abstinence when the person may experience the onset of medically dangerous withdrawal symptoms, which is sometimes the case when quitting alcohol as well as a category of prescription drugs known as benzodiazepines which should be supervised very carefully by medical professionals in case of any complications. Hospital inpatient treatment is also delivered to individuals who choose to undergo medication assisted withdrawal, as is the case with opiate addicted individuals who wish to use this type of detoxification technique to manage the harsh withdrawal symptoms associated with heroin or other opiate withdrawal. This type of opiate detoxification is not considered full rehabilitation and these individuals will need additional counseling and therapy to fully recover from addiction.
