  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Successfully treating a drug overdose can be significantly harder if the individual refuses to divulge what type of drugs have been taken. In many instances, trained medical personnel can determine the type of drug that has been used by observing the various symptoms that are exhibited by the patient.
  • Amphetamines pass through into breast milk and individuals who use them after giving birth are advised to avoid breastfeeding.
  • About 183,000 rapes and sexual assaults annually involve alcohol use by the offender.
  • Currently in the United States, there is very little funding for overdose prevention; unfortunately, the overdose epidemic continues to escalate as the federal grants for these types of preventative programs are not being approved for funding.
  • Crack cocaine is often abused in binges, taken repeatedly within a relatively short period of time at increasingly higher doses.

Criminal Justice Client Programs

Criminal justice clients typically need drug treatment due to problems with drug or alcohol addiction. Due to the nature of the criminal justice system, there are specific steps and guidelines that must be adhered to in order to be accepted into a criminal justice drug rehabilitation program or recovery program. The first step is to establish the criminal justice clients eligibility. This step is accomplished by a panel of officials who decide how much and what type of treatment is necessary. Sometimes, the criminal justice clients receive their drug and alcohol treatment while they are incarcerated. For the best possible results, they are encouraged, if not strictly directed, to continue their recovery process once they leave jail and enroll in a sober living home or a therapeutic community.
