  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • In 2010, over 11% of individuals aged 12 or older drove under the influence of alcohol at least once in the past year, a rate which was highest among persons aged 21 to 25 (23.4 percent).
  • Treatment for a drug overdose is always dependent on knowing which type of drug has been used; therefore, it is critical that a person who witnesses a drug overdose bring any pills or bottles that may help the emergency medical team to determine the appropriate form of treatment.
  • Between 2009 and 2010, lifetime use of Ecstasy by 8th graders increased from 2.2% to 3.3%, past year use from 1.3% to 2.4%, and current use 0.6% to 1.1%. This increase in use follows declines in perceived risk associated with the drug reported over the past several years.
  • Because drug overdose symptoms have been reported to vary widely from person to person, it is important for people to become educated in regard to all of the various drug overdose signs.
  • Individuals under the influence of Bath Salts were the cause of a recent high speed chase along Interstate 80 involving dozens of police officers, risking the lives of many of the citizens that were traveling this interstate.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehabilitation services which are delivered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient treatment facility. An outpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility provides many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment facility where the person is required to remain at the rehab program until the treatment process has been fully completed. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation is also available for individuals who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a comprehensive aftercare program which will provide additional support and treatment to help them avoid relapse.
