  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Current research that was conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has reported that drug overdoses are reported to be the principle cause of death in long term substance abusers.
  • After decreases in marijuana use among high school aged youth in grades 8, 10 and 12 in the U.S., there has been a steady increase in the annual prevalence of marijuana use since 2007.
  • An observer of a drug overdose should attempt to maintain a state of calm, and try to get a response from the person by lightly pinching the back of their arm or by calling their name; additionally, if breathing or a pulse rate is not detectable, emergency resuscitation should begin immediately.
  • A sense of urgency is needed in dealing with a drug overdose, because if treatment is not started immediately, this condition could potentially be fatal.
  • Common Dilaudid withdrawal symptoms may occur four to five hours after the last dose.

Spanish Services

There are more and more Spanish speaking clients walking into substance abuse rehab programs every day needing help. Because Spanish is such a prevalent language in this country, many substance abuse rehab facilities are prepared to deliver treatment to Spanish speaking clients. Additionally, many counselors and therapists make it a point to learn the language so as to be able to provide the treatment and therapy needed for Spanish speaking clients.
