  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Many people suffer needlessly or die from a drug overdose, because the professional medical assistance that is required is not able to be delivered in a timely manner.
  • Drug rehab programs for drug addicted criminal offenders who are living in or re-entering the community should include strategies to prevent and treat serious, chronic medical conditions, such as HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B and C, and tuberculosis.
  • Fentanyl is commonly used to treat individuals with severe pain, to manage pain after surgery, and sometimes to treat people with chronic pain who are physically tolerant to opiates.
  • Amphetamines were the primary factor for 5% of the 1.6 million treatment admissions to publicly funded substance abuse treatment facilities in 1999, an increase from approximately 2 percent in 1993.
  • It is easy to understand why a heroin overdose is more likely than with any other type of an illicit drug, there is no way to determine the exact content or purity of the substance that is being purchased.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehabilitation programs which are delivered on an outpatient basis are available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient treatment center. An outpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility offers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug rehabilitation center where the person is expected to stay and reside at the treatment program until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation is also available for those who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a comprehensive aftercare program which will provide additional support and treatment to help them remain clean and sober.
