  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Ecstasy is illegal in most countries and its possession, manufacture, or sale may result in criminal prosecution.
  • Common reactions from hashish are hunger and uncontrollable fits of laughter.
  • Crack is made by dissolving powdered cocaine with water and ammonia or baking soda, which is then boiled until a solid substance forms. The solid is removed from the liquid, dried, and then broken into the chunks (rocks) that are sold as crack cocaine.
  • By age 25-30, children of alcoholics tend to have levels of drug use "substantially higher" than children of non-alcoholics.
  • A survey of non-injection methamphetamine users who were both heterosexual and gay males concluded that these users had more sex partners, were less likely to use a condom, and were more likely to exchange sex for money or drugs, have sex with an injection drug user, or to have a history of STDs; all risk factors for HIV transmission.

Men Only

Drug and alcohol treatment programs made solely for men are popping up across the nation. Although rehab programs that work with both men and women continue to be the standard for drug rehabilitation, many rehab facilities are creating programs designed to help a particular target group. These centers are able to focus on what their client's individual needs are in a way that standard programs are not. While these specialized types of treatment programs may not be necessary for all recovering addicts, many men are choosing men-only drug rehabilitation programs. This treatment option is best suited for those who feel more comfortable with those of the same sex when discussing private and often difficult memories from the past. Recovering from addiction is a challenging process for every addict and finding comfort among one's peer group is a good way of getting the support needed to make the process that much more endurable.
