  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • About 46 million adults have used both alcohol and tobacco in the past year, and over 6 million adults report both an alcohol dependence and dependence to nicotine.
  • Because the sale of GHB is illegal, no controls are in place regarding strength and purity of the drug when it is produced.
  • Many individuals who have been reported to experience an overdose from commonly prescribed medications do not have a prescription for these drugs.
  • Freebasing cocaine mean that cocaine hydrochloride is converted into cocaine sulfate that is "free" of the additives and nearly 100% pure. It is not water soluble and has a low melting point, so it can be smoked.
  • Including family therapy in the treatment curriculum at a drug rehab can provide successful results, especially for adolescents.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues in order to become fully rehabilitated. Some individuals take drugs to relieve symptoms of mental health problems, and some individuals take drugs which then, in turn, causes symptoms which are identical to mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. Addiction rehabilitation professionals know how to distinguish between the two, and can work with clients to correctly treat real mental health problems in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the individual. This has proven to be effective in keeping people with mental health disorders off of drugs and alcohol and mentally stable and productive.
