  • A methamphetamine high is much prolonged than a cocaine high, yet the cost is much the same which is why it is sometimes referred to as the "poor mans cocaine."
  • In blind trials, individuals who were administered both heroin and methadone were unable to tell the difference between the effects of each drug.
  • The withdrawal of the popular painkiller Darvon in the U.K. has dramatically decreased the amount of drug overdose cases in the United Kingdom; some reports have indicated that the percentage of intentional and accidental drug overdoses have fell by as much as 59%.
  • According to recent data that has been compiled by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the group that has reported the highest increases in death by drug overdose within the past several years are reported to be middle-aged white females and teenagers and young adults that are between the ages of 16-24 that live in southern portions of the United States.
  • For females as a group, circumstances may require a specialized drug rehab approach, and studies have shown that physical and sexual trauma is more common in drug-abusing women than in men seeking treatment.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is offered to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid depends greatly on income and other factors such as whether or not the individual has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may even cover the costs associated with drug treatment, and there are many drug rehabilitation facilities throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Many drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only supply such treatment on a short term basis, usually 30 days or less. Individuals who have Medicaid should look for which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full benefits of such a program.
