  • Although activated charcoal administration was once considered a mainstay of treatment for patients who have experienced an acute overdose, recent studies have indicated that there are no benefits that are derived from the use of it.
  • Chronic methamphetamine use will almost always result in a tolerance to the drug, and users often try to intensify the desired effects by taking higher doses more frequently or changing the method of administration.
  • As of 2010, 1.2% of 8th graders, 1.6% of 10th graders, and 1.0% of 12th graders had abused methamphetamine at least once in the year prior to being surveyed.
  • A recent study found that people who injected methamphetamine also shared syringes more frequently during a methamphetamine binge.
  • Some heroin users have overdosed on their regular dose, after just a few week's break.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for drug or alcohol addiction is a variety ofrehabilitation program where the person will stay at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which typically requires a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the person undergoes an intensive but brief course of treatment that typically incorporates a supervised detox, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the individual to recover and be able to function without drugs in everyday life once treatment is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all instances of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential facility.
