  • GHB is classified as a controlled substance, partially due to that fact that it has been shown to lack accepted safety for medical use in the United States.
  • Heavy use of GHB will result in loss of consciousness, irregular and depressed respiration, tremors, or coma.
  • During 2007, 137,000 persons aged 12 or older reported that they had used PCP in the past year.
  • At college campuses across the United States, students reported that the number one reason that they did not immediately call for medical assistance in the case of a drug or alcohol overdose, was due to the fear of getting the person or themselves in trouble with parents or school officials.
  • Overdose deaths by asphyxiation are common among people who mix alcohol with other drugs and accidentally inhale their vomit into their lungs.

Detoxification

Detoxification is typically the first step in getting off drugs. It enables an individual to be in a supervised setting while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are different types of detoxification. Theyvary from drug-free to medically supervised. A common mistake that a lot of addicts make is to assume that detox is sufficient to kick their habit. This is rarely the case. All detox does is get a person through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is usually recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to find out the root of why a person was using drugs in the first place.
