  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Ecstasy is a chemical derived from the amphetamine family of compounds, which has properties of both stimulants and hallucinogens.
  • Although heroin withdrawal is considered less dangerous than alcohol or barbiturate withdrawal, sudden withdrawal by chronic and long term heroin users who are in poor health can be fatal.
  • According to an epidemiologist for the Center for Disease Control, drug overdose death rates are currently more than double what they were during the peak years of crack cocaine mortality in the 1990's, and five times higher than the rates during the year of heroin mortality peak in 1975.
  • Hashish can be detected in a chronic users urine for a couple of weeks after the last time the drug was used.
  • During 2009, an estimated 760,000 people in the United States aged 12 or older used Ecstasy in the month prior to being surveyed.

Adolescents (18 and under)

It is an unfortunate fact that many adolescents in the United States become exposed to drugs and alcohol at a very young age, and some even become addicted and dependent to drugs and/or alcohol. For adolescents who do become addicted and dependent to alcohol and drugs, parents must be willing to do whatever it takes to help their child before it is too late. Any suspicion that drugs or alcohol are in the picture should be addressed right away, otherwise, addiction will lead down a path of total destruction for the adolescent as well as for the family. There are drug rehab facilities for adolescents offered in every state, many of which cater only to adolescents and have treatment professionals and counselors on staff that are trained specifically in dealing with this age group.
