  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • During the nineties rates of heroin use rose as heroin on the street became purer. The price stayed the same and more young and middle-class Americans began using the drug.
  • Sometimes drug overdoses are the result of a suicide attempt, but many times, drug overdoses are accidental.
  • In the workplace, white non-Hispanics have higher rates of current illicit drug use than their black non-Hispanic and Hispanic counterparts (9%, 6%, and 5% respectively).
  • In the workplace, Americans with less than a high school education are much more likely than other education attainment groups to report heavy alcohol use (14.7%, compared with 7.1% for high school graduates, 7.3 for some college education, and 5.8% for college graduates).
  • Individuals in methadone maintenance may sometimes find it difficult to stay clean and feel as though they are working every day to pay for their daily methadone dose, and can quickly begin to experience burn out.

Other Language Programs

Those who speak other languages, other than English that is, should receive drug or alcohol treatment which is on par with English speakers. Those who speak other languages should not feel that their treatment curriculum or treatment setting is going to be any less effective because they don't speak English. There are many drug rehab centers available which cater to those who speak foreign languages, all of which provide a selection of programs to choose from. For example, some substance abuse rehab facilities which cater to those who speak other languages are only short term programs, and others are longer term programs. Foreign language speakers should seek the advice from an addiction professional in their area to choose a drug treatment program which would be suitable to their needs.
