  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • A characteristic of heroin use is a half-conscious state known as "nodding."
  • An Ecstasy overdose can cause extreme nausea, and individuals will find that they are unable to sweat or urinate, will have muscle cramps, and may even fall into unconsciousness or become extremely overheated which can result in severe organ damage of even death.
  • Alcohol destroys brain cells and unlike many other types of cells in the body, brain cells cannot regenerate themselves.
  • Ecstasy use can cause nausea which could lead to vomiting which greatly increases the risk of death and other health consequences in the event that an unconscious Ecstasy user accidentally suffocates on their own vomit.
  • Heroin abusers often combine it with other drugs, such cocaine or methamphetamine with heroin (known as speedballing), or use alcohol, marijuana, or tranquilizers to enhance the high and blunt effects of withdrawal.

Other Language Programs

Individuals who speak other languages, other than English that is, should be able to receive drug or alcohol treatment which is on par with English speakers. Speakers of other languages should not feel that their treatment curriculum or treatment setting is going to be any less effective because they don't speak English. There are quite a few drug rehabilitation facilities available which cater to those who speak foreign languages, all of which provide a variety of programs to choose from. For example, some substance abuse rehabilitation programs which provide services for those who speak other languages are only short term rehab facilities, and others are longer term programs. Foreign language speakers should consult with a treatment professional in their area to choose a drug or alcohol treatment program which would be suitable to their needs.
