Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment is offered in a wide variety of distinct treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be done on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically participate in treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is especially helpful in handling more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on different circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the individual physically rehabilitated, and then focus on the root psychological and emotional issues which will help them avoid relapse in the future.

Alternative Housing - Transitional Living

A halfway house is a transitional living facility where a person who is trying to recover from alcohol or drug addiction can find support and re-acclimate to life and society. A halfway house is a location where someone can feel safe and repair their life while maintaining sobriety while also take part in clean and sober, productive activities. Halfway houses supply the perfect opportunity for individuals to be in an environment where they can acquire additional counseling and different types of therapy while also learning new trades or discovering stable employment so that they can support a healthy and drug free lifestyle.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol treatment services which are delivered on an outpatient basis are available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient rehabilitation facility. An outpatient drug rehabilitation facility offers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation program where the person is expected to stay and reside at the rehabilitation facility until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehab is also available for those who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a thorough aftercare and relapse prevention program which will offer further support and treatment to help them avoid relapse.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for drug or alcohol addiction is a variety oftreatment program where the individual will reside at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which usually demands a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the individual undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that typically includes a supervised detoxification, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the person become rehabilitated and able to function without drugs in everyday life once treatment is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all instances of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential setting.

Residential Long-Term Treatment that is 30 days or longer

Enrolling into a residential long-term treatment program (more than 30 days) is an effective way ofresolving a severe drug or alcohol addiction problem. This type of drug treatment program is more comprehensive than others that only last a few weeks or those where the client is free to come and go as they please. Attending a residential long-term rehabilitation program (more than 30 days) means that you as the client will live at the rehabilitation facility around the clock while you are in recovery. While providing a more relaxed home-like atmosphere the person has access to counselors and staff at all times. Long term drug or alcohol treatment programs are a perfect choice for those who have a long history of addiction or who have had other unsuccessful attempts at drug or alcohol treatment in the past.

Residential Beds For Clients with Children

Although residential beds for clients children is not as prevalent as other specialized types of drug or alcohol treatment programs, they do, in fact, exist if you are in need. Back in 2007, the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services reported that 515 (14%) of residential substance abuse treatment facilities supplied beds for both mothers and their children. There is a substantial advantage to both the mother and child who are able to enroll in programs that offer residential beds for clients children. The mother is able to receive the addiction treatment they need while remaining close with their children through the treatment process of substance abuse recovery. Most parents (mothers in specific) do not want to admit that they need help for their addiction problemsfor fear that their children will be taken from them. These programs help to reduce this fear while offering the care and support that both mother and child so desperately need.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug rehabilitation facilities are an outstanding alternative to other types of rehab centers i.e. private medical insurance and state funded facilities. Individuals who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehabilitation process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug treatment program. To learn more about self payment programs, contact a substance abuse rehab center and ask about their payment options. It is beneficial to contact several programs so that you have a comparison of your choices regarding treatment options and payment methods.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

When a person is addicted to drugs or alcohol and is looking for help, many effective drug rehabilitation programs accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term rehab facilities accept private health insurance, far more effective substance abuse rehab centers which offer an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These rehab facilities which accept private health insurance can differ in terms of treatment curriculum, but those clients who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to attending a drug or alcohol treatment facility. For additional information, speak with with a treatment professional at a substance abuse rehab center in your area to find out which services your private health insurance will cover.

Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug rehab can be a problem, because typically all resources have been exhausted because of the persons drug habit. Many drug treatment facilities fully grasp this reality which is why many drug and alcohol treatment facilities across the nation offer payment options known as a sliding scale fee. There are several variables put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug rehabilitation programs would prefer to find a way to make it work financially so that those that need addiction help can get the help they need.
