Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide range of distinct treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically attend treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly helpful in resolving more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on various circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will concentrate on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then focus on underlying psychological and emotional issues.

Detoxification

Detoxification is normally the initial step in getting off drugs. It permits a person to be in a supervised environment while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are different types of detoxification. Theyvary from drug-free to medically supervised. A frequent mistake that quite a few addicts make is to feel that detox is sufficient to kick their habit. This is almost never the case. All detox does is get a person through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is usually recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to learn the root of why somebody was using drugs in the first place.

Alternative Housing - Transitional Living

A halfway house is a transitional living facility where an individual who is trying to recover from alcohol or drug addiction can find support and re-adjust to life and society as a drug free individual. A halfway house is a location where the person can feel secure and repair their life while maintaining sobriety while also take part in clean and sober, productive activities. Halfway houses are the perfect opportunity for recovering addicts to be in an atmosphere where they can acquire further counseling and different types of therapy while also learning new trades or obtaining stable employment so that they can support a healthy and productive, drug-free life.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug treatment programs which are delivered on an outpatient basis are available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient rehab program. An outpatient substance abuse rehab program offers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment facility where the individual is expected to remain at the treatment facility until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehab is also offered for those who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but also need a comprehensive aftercare and relapse prevention program which will offer further support and therapy to help them remain clean and sober.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for substance abuse is a type ofrehabilitation program where the addicted individual will remain at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which usually requires a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the recovering addict undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that usually incorporates a supervised detoxification, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the person become rehabilitated and able to function without drugs in everyday life once treatment is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all instances of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential facility.

Residential Long-Term Treatment that is 30 days or longer

Attending a residential long-term treatment program (more than 30 days) is an effective way ofaddressing a severe drug or alcohol addiction problem. This type of drug and alcohol treatment program is more intensive than others that only last a few weeks or those where the client is free to come and go as they please. Attending a residential long-term rehab program (more than 30 days) means that you as the client will stay at the rehabilitation center around the clock while you are in recovery. While providing a more relaxed home-like environment the client has access to counselors and staff at all times. Long term drug rehabilitation programs are an ideal choice for those who have a long history of substance abuse or who have had other unsuccessful attempts at recovery in the past.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment substance abuse treatment centers are an outstanding alternative to other types of treatment facilities i.e. private medical insurance and state funded facilities. Individuals who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehabilitation process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug rehabilitation program. To learn more about self payment programs, contact a drug rehabilitation center and ask about their payment options. It is a good idea to contact several facilities so that you have an understanding of your choices regarding treatment options and payment options.
