Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide range of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically participate in treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to reside in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is especially beneficial in handling more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on unique circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will concentrate on getting the individual physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on underlying psychological and emotional issues.

Detoxification

Detoxification is generally the first step in getting off drugs. It enables a person to be in a supervised setting while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are different types of detoxification. Theyrange from drug-free to medically supervised. A typical mistake that a lot of addicts make is to think that detox is sufficient to kick their habit. This is rarely the case. All detox does is get somebody through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is at all times recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to learn the root of why someone was using drugs in the first place.

Residential Long-Term Treatment that is 30 days or longer

Enrolling into a residential long-term treatment program (more than 30 days) is an effective way ofresolving a serious substance abuse problem. This type of drug and alcohol rehab program is more intensive than others that only last a few weeks or those where the client is free to come and go as they please. Choosing a residential long-term treatment program (more than 30 days) means that you as the client will reside at the rehab center around the clock while you are in recovery. While providing a more relaxed home-like setting the person has access to treatment professionals at all times. Long term drug or alcohol treatment programs are a perfect choice for those who have a long history of addiction or who have had other unsuccessful attempts at recovery in the past.

Men Only

Drug rehabilitation programs designed exclusively for men are rising up across the nation. Although programs that work with both men and women continue to be the standard for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, many rehab facilities are creating programs intended to help a specific target group. These centers are able to focus on what their client's particular needs are in a way that standard programs are not. While these specialized types of treatment programs are not necessary for all recovering addicts, many men are choosing men-only addiction rehabilitation programs. This rehabilitation option is excellent for those who feel more comfortable with those of the same sex when discussing private and often difficult memories from the past. Recovering from addiction is a challenging process for every addict and finding comfort among one's peer group is a good way of receiving the support needed to make the process that much more endurable.

Native American or Alaska Native Languages

Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much higher rates of abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, a circumstance which must be addressed for these cultures to survive. In fact, Native American and Alaska youth have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the country. Though the reasons may vary from person to person, most of the reasons for the high rates of substance abuse among Native American and Alaska natives are cultural ones. The biggest barrier to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse and addiction are language and culture differences. This is why it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives receive substance abuse treatment in a drug rehab program that is culturally acceptable, but most importantly in one that takes into the account the need to provide treatment in their language.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is offered to people in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid is dependent on income and other factors such as whether or not the individual has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may possibly even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol treatment, and there are a lot of drug and alcohol rehab programs throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Most drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which are covered through Medicaid may only deliver a limited treatment curriculum and may only supply such treatment on a short term basis, usually 30 days or less. People who have Medicaid should research which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full rewards of such a program.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

When an individual is abusing drugs or alcohol and is seeking help, many effective drug or alcohol rehab programs accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term programs accept private health insurance, far more effective drug treatment programs which require an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These treatment programs which accept private health insurance can differ in terms of treatment curriculum, but those people who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug or alcohol rehabilitation facility. Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many substance abuse rehab programs in the United States offer payment assistance to people struggling with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The person in need of treatment can select a rehab facility which is a good fit, meaning the treatment plan and design of the program will offer them the best results. The addicted individual can then talk to one of the treatment professionals at the drug or alcohol rehab program to discuss what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug and alcohol rehab centers are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will often work with the person to locate an equivalent or similar rehabilitation program which is more affordable or that can offer workable financing options so that they can receive the rehabilitation they so desperately need.
