Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment is offered in a wide range of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be carried out on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically attend treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly beneficial in resolving more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on different circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will concentrate on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then focus on the root psychological and emotional issues.

Alternative Housing - Transitional Living

A halfway house is a transitional living facility where an individual who is recovering from drug or alcohol addiction can stabilize and re-adjust to life and society. A halfway house is a location where someone can feel secure and repair their life while maintaining sobriety while also participate in clean and sober, productive activities. Halfway houses are an ideal opportunity for individuals to be in a setting where they can receive additional counseling and different types of therapy while also learning new trades or discovering stable employment so that they can support a healthy and drug free lifestyle.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol rehabilitation services which are provided on an outpatient basis are available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient treatment program. An outpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation program delivers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug rehab program where the person is required to remain at the rehabilitation facility until treatment has been fully completed. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehab is also available for individuals who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but require a comprehensive aftercare and relapse prevention program which will offer additional support and therapy to help them avoid relapse.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues in order to become fully rehabilitated. Some people take drugs or alcohol to alleviate symptoms of mental health complications, and some people take drugs which then, in turn, creates symptoms which mimic mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression. Addiction rehabilitation professionals know how to distinguish between the two, and can work with clients to properly treat real mental health disorders in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the person. This has proven to be effective in keeping people with mental health issues off of drugs and alcohol and mentally stable and happy.

Women Only

Rehabilitation from drug addiction is a process that can be difficult and in manyways intimidating. This is why some women seeking recovery feel more comfortable in treatment centers designed specifically for women. Women who are addicted to drugs or alcohol typicallyhave personal issues that are much different than their male counter parts. In a drug or alcohol rehab center where all the clients are women, the recovering addict will feel more at ease and will be able to work through her personal conflicts that led to her drug abuse and addiction problems. Statistics show that up to seventy percent of drug abusing women report having some type of sexual or physical abuse in their past. These delicate issues are easier to work through in the company of other women without fear of judgment or ridicule.

Men Only

Drug rehabilitation facilities made exclusively for men are emerging across the country. Although rehab facilities that work with both men and women are still the standard for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, many facilities are creating programs designed to help a specific target group. These facilities are able to focus on what their client's particular needs are in a way that standard facilities cannot provide. While these specialized types of treatment programs are not needed for all recovering addicts, many men are deciding on men-only drug and alcohol treatment facilities. This recovery option is excellent for those who feel more comfortable with those of the same sex when sharing private and often difficult memories from the past. Recovering from addiction is a challenging process for every addict and finding comfort among one's peer group is an excellent way of receiving the support needed to make the process that much more bearable and successful.

Criminal Justice Client Programs

Criminal justice clients often need drug or alcohol treatment because of their problems with drug or alcohol addiction. Due to the nature of the criminal justice system, there are specific steps and guidelines that must be adhered to in order to be accepted into a criminal justice substance abuse rehabilitation facility or recovery program. The first step is to determine the criminal justice clients eligibility. This step is completed by a panel of officials who determine how much and what type of treatment is necessary. Often, the criminal justice clients obtain their drug and alcohol rehabilitation while they are incarcerated. For optimum results, they are encouraged, if not strictly directed, to continue their recovery once they leave jail and enroll in sober living or a long-term residential transitional living program.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are an excellent alternative to other types of rehabilitation programs i.e. private medical insurance and state funded facilities. Individuals who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire treatment process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug or alcohol treatment program. In order to learn more about self payment programs, make contact with a substance abuse rehabilitation center and ask about their payment options. It is beneficial to contact a number of facilities so that you have a comparison of your choices regarding rehab options and payment options.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is made available to people in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid depends greatly on income and other factors such as whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may even cover the costs associated with drug treatment, and there are many drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Most drug rehab programs which are covered through Medicaid may only deliver a limited treatment curriculum and may only deliver such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. Individuals who have Medicaid should research which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to reap the full benefits of a Medicaid rehab program.

Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug treatment can be a challenge, as all resources have been exhausted due to their addiction. Many drug treatment facilities fully grasp this fact which is why many drug and alcohol rehab programs across the nation provide payment options known as a sliding scale fee. There are several factors put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug treatment programs would rather find a way to make it work financially so that those suffering with addiction can receive the help they need.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many drug and alcohol rehab programs in the United States offer payment assistance to people having difficulties with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The person in need of treatment can select a rehab program which ideally fits their situation, meaning the treatment curriculum and design of the program would offer them the best results. The addicted individual can then talk to one of the treatment professionals at the drug or alcohol rehab facility to discuss what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will often work with the person to find an equivalent or similar rehab program which is more affordable or that can provide workable financing options so that they can acquire the rehabilitation they so desperately need.
