Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment is offered in a wide range of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be carried out on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically attend treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly beneficial in resolving more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on different circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will concentrate on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then focus on the root psychological and emotional issues.

Detoxification

Detoxification is commonly the 1st step in getting off drugs. It enables an individual to be in a supervised setting while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are various types of detoxification. Theyvary from drug-free to medically supervised. A common mistake that many addicts make is to believe that detox is sufficient to kick their habit. This is seldom the case. All detox does is get somebody through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is always recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to learn the root of why someone was using drugs in the first place.

Detox for Methadone

Methadone detoxification is a process which should be supervised by addiction professionals within a drug treatment facility who recognize how difficult and challenging methadone detoxification can be. Methadone detoxification is regarded to be far more serious in terms of symptoms and duration than even heroin detox, and users often revert back to methadone to relieve withdrawal symptoms or, worse yet, turn to heroin or prescription opioids to alleviate symptoms. This is why methadone detoxification must only be done under close supervision at a drug rehab program which has practical experience in handling this type of detox, and where the person can receive additional treatment services to address all addiction issues.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol treatment services which are delivered on an outpatient basis are available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient treatment program. An outpatient drug treatment facility delivers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment facility where the person is required to stay and reside at the treatment program until treatment has been fully completed. Outpatient drug rehab is also offered for those who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but also need a comprehensive aftercare and relapse prevention program which will offer additional support and treatment to help them remain clean and sober.

Specialized in Hiv/Aids Patients

It is not uncommon for someone with HIV/AIDS to end up in a drug rehab facility receiving help for serious addiction problems. Often individuals who abuse drugs and alcohol are predisposed to such diseases due to certain circumstances which afflict the drug culture such as sharing dirty needles to inject drugs or participating in risky sexual behavior because of lowered sexual inhibitions caused by drug use. Persons with HIV/AIDS deserve effective rehabilitation just like any otherwise healthy addicted individual. Drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities that accept and cater to persons with HIV/AIDS provide specialized care to address any health issues that may come up in the course of treatment. This way, any physical barriers to recovery are alleviated so that they can overcome their addiction once and for all.

Women Only

Rehabilitation from drug or alcohol addiction is a process that can be challenging and in a lot ofways intimidating. This is why some women seeking help with addiction feel more comfortable in rehab programs designed specifically for women. Women who are addicted to drugs or alcohol typicallyhave personal issues that are much different than their male counter parts. In a drug or alcohol rehab program where all the clients are women, the recovering addict will feel more at ease and will be able to work through her personal issues that led to her substance abuse and addiction problems. Statistics show that up to seventy percent of women with addiction problems report having some type of sexual or physical abuse in their past. These delicate issues are easier to address in the company of other women without fear of judgment or ridicule.

Men Only

Drug rehab facilities designed solely for men are rising up across the nation. Although rehab programs that treat both men and women continue to be the standard for drug rehabilitation, many rehab centers are developing programs designed to help a specific target group. These centers are able to focus on what their client's individual needs are in a way that standard facilities cannot provide. Although these specialized types of rehab programs may not be needed for all recovering addicts, many men are deciding on men-only addiction rehab programs. This treatment option is ideal for those who feel more comfortable among others of the same sex when sharing private and often difficult memories from the past. Recovering from addiction is a difficult process for every addict and finding comfort among one's peer group is a good way of receiving the support needed to make the process that much more bearable and successful.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is accessible to people in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid is dependent on income and other factors including whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may possibly even cover the costs associated with drug rehabilitation, and there are many drug rehab centers throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Most drug and alcohol rehab facilities which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only deliver such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug or alcohol rehab can be a problem, as all resources have been exhausted because of the persons addiction. Many drug treatment programs recognize this reality which is why many drug and alcohol treatment facilities around the country provide payment options known as a sliding scale fee. There are several factors put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug and alcohol rehab facilities would rather find a way to make it work financially so that those suffering with addiction can get the help they need.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many drug rehabilitation programs in the United States offer payment assistance to people having difficulties with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The individual in need of rehabilitation can choose a treatment program which ideally fits their situation, meaning the treatment curriculum and design of the program will supply them the best results. The addicted individual can then seek advice from one of the treatment professionals at the drug rehabilitation center to go over what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug treatment centers are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will often work with the individual to locate an equivalent or similar rehabilitation program which is more affordable or that can provide workable financing options so that they can get the rehabilitation they so desperately need.
