Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehabilitation services which are provided on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient rehab center. An outpatient substance abuse treatment program provides many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol rehab facility where the person is expected to stay and reside at the treatment program until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol treatment is also offered for those who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but also need a thorough aftercare program which will provide further support and therapy to help them avoid relapse.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues if there is any hope for them to recover completely. Some individuals take drugs to alleviate symptoms of mental health problems, and some people take drugs which then, in turn, creates symptoms which mimic mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety. Addiction treatment professionals know how to distinguish between the two, and can work with clients to correctly treat real mental health conditions in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the individual. This has proven to be effective in keeping individuals with mental health disorders off of drugs and alcohol and mentally stable and happy.

Criminal Justice Client Programs

Criminal justice clients frequently need drug rehabilitation due to problems with drug or alcohol addiction. Due to the nature of the criminal justice system, there are specific steps and guidelines that must be completed in order to be accepted into a criminal justice drug rehab center or recovery program. The initial step is to establish the criminal justice clients eligibility. This step is accomplished by a panel of officials who determine how much and what type of treatment is necessary. Sometimes, the criminal justice clients obtain their drug and alcohol treatment while they are incarcerated. For optimum results, they are encouraged, if not strictly directed, to continue their recovery process once they leave jail and enroll in sober living or a therapeutic community.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug and alcohol treatment facilities are an outstanding alternative to other types of treatment programs i.e. private medical insurance and state funded facilities. Individuals who are able to attend self payment programs pay for their entire rehab process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their substance abuse rehabilitation program. To learn more about self payment at a specific program, contact a substance abuse rehabilitation facility and ask about their payment options. It is beneficial to contact a number of facilities so that you have a comparison of your choices with regards to rehab options and payment options.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is offered to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid depends greatly on income and other circumstances including whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other assistance. Medicaid may even cover the costs associated with drug treatment, and there are a lot of drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Most drug and alcohol rehab programs which are covered through Medicaid may only deliver a limited treatment curriculum and may only deliver such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. Individuals who have Medicaid should look for which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to reap the full benefits of such a program.

Medicare Coverage

Drug addiction and alcoholism affects many older Americans and seniors, and this problem is projected to only worsen in the coming years. Seniors who are covered by Medicare, an insurance program funded through the federal government for Americans in this age bracket, can use their Medicare benefits to receive treatment services for addiction at a wide variety of drug rehabilitation centers around the country. Medicare covers both inpatient and outpatient treatment facilities, and seniors who are in need of help can consult with their primary care physician to choose a rehab program covered by Medicare which would fit his or her particular needs.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

Some people are covered through state financed insurance because they fail to meet the eligibility requirements for Medicaid. Some states however offer state financed health insurance to those who cannot afford private health insurance plans. State financed health insurance programs will in some cases cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a variety of drug and alcohol treatment programs around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both inpatient or outpatient drug treatment services. To find out which treatment programs will accept state financed insurance, speak with a drug and alcohol treatment professional.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

If someone is addicted to drugs or alcohol and is seeking help, many effective substance abuse rehab programs accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term programs accept private health insurance, far more beneficial drug treatment centers which provide an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These rehab facilities which accept private health insurance can vary in terms of treatment curriculum, but those clients who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug or alcohol rehab program. For additional information, consult with an addiction specialist at a drug or alcohol rehabilitation program in your area to see which services your private health insurance will cover.

Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug rehab can be a problem, as all resources have been exhausted due to the persons addiction. Many drug treatment facilities recognize this fact which is why many drug rehab programs around the country offer payment arrangements known as a sliding scale fee. There are many variables put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug treatment programs would prefer to find a way to make it work financially so that those that need addiction help can get the help they need.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many substance abuse treatment facilities in the United States provide payment assistance to people having difficulties with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The person in need of rehabilitation can choose a rehabilitation facility which ideally fits their situation, meaning the treatment curriculum and design of the program would offer them the best results. The addicted individual can then consult with one of the treatment professionals at the drug or alcohol rehab facility to go over what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will typically work with the individual to locate an equivalent or comparable rehabilitation program which is more affordable or that can provide workable financing options so that they can receive the rehabilitation they so desperately need.
