Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment is offered in a wide variety of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be done on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly beneficial in handling more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on unique circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on the root psychological and emotional issues.

Alternative Housing - Transitional Living

A halfway house is a transitional living facility where a person who is trying to recover from drug or alcohol addiction can find support and re-acclimate to life and society. A halfway house is a location where someone can feel secure and rebuild their life while recovering from addiction while also participate in activities which will help them do just that. Halfway houses supply the perfect opportunity for individuals to be in an environment where they can acquire further counseling and different types of therapy while also learning new trades or obtaining stable employment so that they can support a healthy and drug free lifestyle.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol rehab programs which are delivered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient rehabilitation center. An outpatient substance abuse rehabilitation center provides many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug treatment center where the individual is required to remain at the rehab program until treatment is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehab is also offered for those who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but require a thorough aftercare and relapse prevention program which will provide additional support and therapy to help them avoid relapse.

Residential Long-Term Treatment that is 30 days or longer

Attending a residential long-term treatment program (more than 30 days) is the best way ofresolving a severe drug or alcohol addiction problem. This type of substance abuse rehabilitation facility is more intensive than others that only last a few weeks or those where the person in recovery is free to come and go as they please. Choosing a residential long-term rehab program (more than 30 days) means that you as the client will reside at the treatment center around the clock while you are in recovery. While providing a more relaxed home-like atmosphere the client has access to counselors and staff at all times. Long term drug rehabilitation facilities are a perfect choice for those who have a long history of substance abuse or who have had other unsuccessful attempts at drug or alcohol treatment in the past.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues in order to recover completely. Some individuals take drugs to ease symptoms of mental health disorders, and some individuals take drugs which then, in turn, creates symptoms which mimic mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. Drug treatment professionals know how to differentiate between the two, and can work with clients to properly treat real mental health problems in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the individual. This has proven to be effective in keeping people with mental health issues off of drugs and alcohol and mentally stable and healthy.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug rehabilitation centers are a great alternative to other types of rehabilitation facilities i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. People who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire treatment process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their substance abuse rehab program. To learn more about self payment at a specific program, make contact with a drug or alcohol rehabilitation program and ask about their payment options. It is beneficial to contact several facilities so that you have an understanding of your choices with regards to treatment options and payment methods.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

If someone is addicted to drugs or alcohol and is looking for help, many effective drug or alcohol rehabilitation facilities accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term programs accept private health insurance, far more effective drug rehab programs which provide an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These programs which accept private health insurance can differ in terms of treatment curriculum, but those people who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug or alcohol treatment program. For more information, speak with with an addiction specialist at a substance abuse rehabilitation facility in your area to find out which programs your private health insurance will cover.

Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug treatment can be a challenge, as all resources have been exhausted because of the persons drug habit. Many drug treatment facilities understand this fact which is why many drug and alcohol treatment facilities across the nation offer payment options known as a sliding scale fee. There are various factors put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug rehabilitation facilities would prefer to find a way to make it work financially so that those suffering with addiction can acquire the help they need.
