Hospital Inpatient Programs

Hospital inpatient substance abuse rehabilitation is done in a hospital or similar setting and is supervised by doctors and other medical staff. Hospital inpatient treatment is sometimes necessary in the beginning stages of abstinence when the client may encounter the onset of life threatening withdrawal symptoms, which is sometimes true when quitting alcohol as well as a category of prescription drugs known as benzodiazepines which should be supervised very carefully by medical professionals to minimize ant dangerous health complications. Hospital inpatient treatment is also administered to those who choose to undergo medication assisted withdrawal, as is the case with opiate addicted individuals who wish to use this type of detoxification approach to avoid the severe withdrawal symptoms associated with heroin or other opiate withdrawal. This type of opiate detoxification is not treatment in itself however, and these people will require additional counseling and therapy to completely recover from addiction.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues in order to become fully rehabilitated. Some individuals take drugs or alcohol to ease symptoms of mental health complications, and some individuals take drugs which then, in turn, causes symptoms which mimic mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. Drug treatment professionals know how to distinguish between the two, and can work with clients to correctly treat real mental health problems in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the individual. This has proven to be effective in keeping people with mental health issues off of drugs and alcohol and mentally stable and happy.

Individuals who speak other languages, other than English that is, should be able to receive substance abuse treatment which is on par with English speakers. Speakers of other languages should not feel that their treatment opportunities are limited or inferior because they don't speak English. There are quite a few drug and alcohol rehab facilities available which cater to those who speak foreign languages, all of which provide a selection of programs to choose from. For example, some substance abuse treatment programs which cater to individuals who speak other languages are only short term rehab facilities, but there are more long term options available. Foreign language speakers should consult with an addiction professional in their area to choose a drug or alcohol rehab facility that provides rehabilitation services in their specific language.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is offered to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug treatment can be a challenge, because typically all resources have been exhausted due to the persons drug habit. Many drug treatment facilities understand this reality which is why many drug rehabilitation facilities around the country offer payment arrangements known as a sliding scale fee. There are several factors put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug and alcohol rehab facilities would prefer to find a way to make it work financially so that those suffering with addiction can acquire the help they need.
