Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide variety of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the individual will typically participate in treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly helpful in resolving more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on different circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will concentrate on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on the root psychological and emotional issues which will help them avoid relapse in the future.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol rehab programs which are provided on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient rehabilitation program. An outpatient drug and alcohol rehab facility delivers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation center where the person is expected to remain at the treatment facility until treatment has been fully completed. Outpatient drug rehab is also available for those who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but require a thorough aftercare and relapse prevention program which will provide further support and treatment to help them remain clean and sober.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug rehab programs are an outstanding alternative to other types of rehabilitation facilities i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. Individuals who are able to attend self payment programs pay for their entire rehabilitation process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their substance abuse rehab program. In order to learn more about self payment programs, contact a drug or alcohol rehabilitation center and inquire as to their payment options. It is a good idea to contact several facilities so that you have a comparison of your choices regarding rehab options and payment methods.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is accessible to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid depends greatly on income and other circumstances such as whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other assistance. Medicaid may even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol treatment, and there are a lot of drug rehabilitation programs throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Most drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities which are covered through Medicaid may only deliver a limited treatment curriculum and may only supply such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. Individuals who have Medicaid should research which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full rewards of a Medicaid rehab program.

Medicare Coverage

Drug addiction and alcoholism can effect many older Americans and seniors, and this problem is projected to only worsen in the coming years. Seniors who are covered through the Medicare program, an insurance program funded through the federal government for Americans in this age bracket, can use their benefits to receive treatment services for addiction at a wide variety of drug rehab facilities around the country. Medicare covers both inpatient and outpatient rehab programs, and seniors who are in need of help can consult with their primary care physician to choose a treatment program covered by Medicare which would fit his or her particular needs.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

Some individuals are covered through state financed insurance because they do not meet the eligibility requirements for Medicaid. Some states however offer state financed health insurance to those who cannot afford private health insurance plans. State financed health insurance programs will sometimes cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a wide variety of drug rehab facilities around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both inpatient or outpatient substance abuse treatment services. To find out which rehabilitation facilities will accept state financed insurance, consult a drug treatment professional.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

When someone is addicted to drugs or alcohol and is looking for help, there are many effective drug or alcohol rehabilitation facilities accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term rehab facilities accept private health insurance, far more beneficial substance abuse treatment facilities which provide an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These rehab facilities which accept private health insurance can vary in terms of treatment curriculum, but those people who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug rehab program. For more information, consult with an addiction specialist at a drug or alcohol rehabilitation facility in your area to find out which services your private health insurance will cover.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many drug rehab centers in the United States provide payment assistance to individuals having difficulties with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The person in need of treatment can choose a rehabilitation program which ideally fits their situation, meaning the treatment curriculum and design of the program will supply them the best results. The addicted individual can then seek advice from one of the treatment professionals at the drug or alcohol treatment program to talk about what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug treatment facilities are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will typically work with the person to find an equivalent or comparable treatment facility which is more affordable or that can offer workable financing options so that they can get the rehabilitation they so desperately need.
