Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide variety of distinct treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be carried out on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is especially helpful in handling more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on various circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the individual physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on underlying psychological and emotional issues which will help them avoid relapse in the future.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol treatment programs which are provided on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient treatment facility. An outpatient drug and alcohol treatment program delivers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment facility where the person is expected to stay and reside at the rehab program until treatment is complete. Outpatient drug rehab is also available for individuals who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a comprehensive aftercare and relapse prevention program which will provide additional support and therapy to help them avoid relapse.

Dui/Dwi Offender Programs

DUI/DWI offenders are often required to enroll in a specific number of hours either in counseling, meetings or a drug or alcohol rehab program. Each state has its own requirements when it comes to sentencing for the DUI/DWI offender. Offenders who are considered to be low to moderate DUI/DWI offenders will typically be required to participate in some form of group counseling or therapy. These are sometimes referred to as "Level I & Level II Alcohol Classes". These group meetings are typically held by a professional in the field of addiction recovery or a person with long-term sobriety involved in the Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous groups. DUI/DWI offenders deemed to be serious offenders will likely have to serve jail time at a minimum before beginning their mandatory counseling or alcohol rehab program.

Criminal Justice Client Programs

Criminal justice clients often need substance abuse rehabilitation due to problems with drug and alcohol abuse. Due to the nature of the criminal justice system, there are specific steps and guidelines that must be performed in order to be admitted into a criminal justice drug rehabilitation facility or recovery program. The initial step is to establish the criminal justice clients eligibility. This step is completed by a panel of officials who decide how much and what type of treatment is necessary. Sometimes, the criminal justice clients obtain their substance abuse rehabilitation while they are incarcerated. For optimum results, they are encouraged, if not strictly directed, to continue their recovery once they leave jail and enroll in a sober living home or a therapeutic community.

Spanish Services

There are more and more Spanish speaking clients enrolling into drug rehabilitation programs every day needing help. Because Spanish is such a widespread language in this country, many drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are capable of providing services to Spanish speaking individuals. Additionally, many treatment professionals make it a point to learn the language so as to be able to provide the support and therapy needed for Spanish speaking clients.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug treatment facilities are an outstanding alternative to other types of rehabilitation centers i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. People who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehab process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug or alcohol rehab program. In order to learn more about self payment programs, contact a drug or alcohol rehab program and ask about their payment options. It is a good idea to contact several programs so that you have an understanding of your choices regarding treatment options and payment methods.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is made available to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid depends greatly on income and other circumstances such as whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other assistance. Medicaid may even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol rehab, and there are a lot of drug treatment programs throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Most drug rehabilitation facilities which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only deliver such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. People who have Medicaid should look for which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full rewards of such a program.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

Some people are covered through state financed insurance because they do not qualify for Medicaid. Some states however offer affordable health insurance to those individuals who cannot afford private health insurance plans. State financed health insurance programs will sometimes cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a variety of drug and alcohol rehab programs around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both inpatient or outpatient drug treatment providers. To find out which rehabilitation facilities will accept state financed insurance, consult a drug and alcohol treatment professional.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

If an individual is abusing drugs or alcohol and is seeking help, many effective substance abuse treatment programs accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term programs accept private health insurance, far more effective substance abuse treatment programs which offer an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These treatment programs which accept private health insurance can differ in terms of treatment curriculum, but those people who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug or alcohol rehabilitation program. For additional information, consult with an addiction specialist at a drug or alcohol treatment program in your area to see which programs your private health insurance will cover.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many drug rehab centers in the United States provide payment assistance to men and women struggling with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The individual in need of treatment can select a rehabilitation program which ideally fits their situation, meaning the treatment plan and design of the program would provide them the best results. The addicted person can then seek advice from one of the treatment professionals at the drug treatment center to talk about what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will usually work with the person to locate an equivalent or similar rehab facility which is more affordable or that can offer workable financing options so that they can receive the help they so desperately need.
