  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Extended use of Xanax can lead to physical drug dependence, even when it is taken at the prescribed doses.
  • Crack withdrawal typically causes users to turn to other substances like alcohol, sedatives, hypnotics, or anti-anxiety medications to treat their symptoms.
  • Many senior citizens who take medications for chronic pain will forget that they have already taken the potent pain medicines; in many of these instances, these elderly individuals will experience a potentially deadly drug overdose as a direct result of their memory lag.
  • The risk of a drug overdose is always greater when using illicit street drugs, because the user can never be sure how strong the drug is that they are taking; ultimately, this can lead to serious, or even fatal consequences.
  • Heroin use during pregnancy can result in low birth weight, an important risk factor for a childs later development.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug treatment programs which are offered on an outpatient basis are available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient rehab facility. An outpatient drug treatment program offers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment program where the person is expected to stay and reside at the treatment center until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol treatment is also offered for individuals who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but also need a comprehensive aftercare and relapse prevention program which will offer additional support and treatment to help them avoid relapse.

Seniors/Older Adult Services

Whether it is evident or not, seniors and older adults encompass a significant percentage of individuals in the United States who struggle with drug and/or alcohol abuse and addiction. As the baby boomer generation ages, this will become an even bigger problem with an even bigger need for drug rehabilitation centers which are prepared to treat seniors and older adults who are in need of treatment for addiction issues. Seniors and older adults are faced with many physical challenges as a result of their age, which can have an impact on treatment outcome if not addressed concurrently. It is beneficial for seniors and older adults to seek rehabilitation before any long term consequences arise.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug and alcohol rehab centers are an outstanding alternative to other types of rehab facilities i.e. private medical insurance and state funded facilities. People who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehabilitation process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their substance abuse rehab program. In order to learn more about self payment programs, contact a substance abuse rehabilitation facility and ask about their payment options. It is a good idea to contact several facilities so that you have a comparison of your choices regarding rehab options and payment methods.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is offered to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid is dependent on income and other circumstances such as whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may possibly even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol treatment, and there are many drug rehab programs throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Many drug treatment programs which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only supply such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. Individuals who have Medicaid should research which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full rewards of a Medicaid rehab program.
