Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide range of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly beneficial in handling more serious cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on various circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on the root psychological and emotional issues.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehab services which are offered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient rehabilitation facility. An outpatient drug and alcohol treatment center provides many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug rehabilitation program where the individual is required to remain at the rehab facility until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation is also available for individuals who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but also need a comprehensive aftercare program which will provide further support and treatment to help them remain clean and sober.

Specialized in Hearing Impaired Clients

People can become addicted to drugs no matter their handicap, disability or personal physical challenge. This sometimes makes people particularly more vulnerable to becoming involved in substance abuse, because of the various challenges that this can bring about in the person's life. This is true for those people in the deaf and hearing impaired community as well, and treatment for substance abuse and addiction is sometimes necessary. Deaf or hearing impaired individuals will require ASL or other assistance as part of their treatment needs, and there are drug rehab facilities available which provide these services. Professional treatment counselors who know ASL and can provide other necessary assistance to deaf or hearing impaired substance abusers.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug rehabilitation centers are a great alternative to other types of rehabilitation centers i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. People who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire treatment process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug rehabilitation program. To learn more about self payment at a specific program, make contact with a drug or alcohol rehab center and inquire as to their payment options. It is a good idea to contact a number of facilities so that you have a comparison of your choices regarding rehab options and payment options.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is made available to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid depends greatly on income and other factors such as whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other assistance. Medicaid may possibly even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol rehab, and there are a lot of drug and alcohol treatment programs throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Most drug treatment facilities which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only supply such treatment on a short term basis, usually 30 days or less. People who have Medicaid should explore which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full benefits of such a program.

Medicare Coverage

Drug addiction and alcoholism affects many older Americans and seniors, and this problem continues to grow as each year passes. Seniors who are covered through the Medicare program, an insurance program funded through the federal government for Americans in this age bracket, can use their benefits to receive treatment services for drug or alcohol addiction at a wide variety of drug and alcohol rehab facilities around the country. Medicare covers both inpatient and outpatient rehab facilities, and seniors who wish to receive treatment can consult with their primary care physician to choose a treatment program covered by Medicare which would be suitable for them.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

Some individuals are covered through state financed insurance because they fail to meet the eligibility requirements for Medicaid. Some states however offer state financed health insurance to those who cannot afford private health insurance plans. State financed health insurance programs will sometimes cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a variety of drug rehabilitation centers around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both inpatient or outpatient substance abuse rehab services. To find out which rehab facilities will accept state financed insurance, speak with a substance abuse treatment specialist.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

If a person is addicted to drugs or alcohol and is seeking help, many effective drug or alcohol rehabilitation programs accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term programs accept private health insurance, far more beneficial substance abuse treatment programs which offer an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These programs which accept private health insurance can vary in terms of treatment curriculum, but those individuals who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug treatment facility. For additional information, consult with an addiction specialist at a drug rehab facility in your area to find out which services your private health insurance will cover.

Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug treatment can be a problem, because typically all resources have been exhausted due to the persons drug habit. Many drug treatment programs understand this fact which is why many drug and alcohol treatment programs across the nation provide payment arrangements known as a sliding scale fee. There are several factors put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug and alcohol rehab facilities would rather find a way to make it work financially so that those that need addiction help can get the help they need.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs in the United States offer payment assistance to individuals struggling with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The individual in need of treatment can choose a treatment program which is a good fit, meaning the treatment curriculum and design of the program would supply them the best results. The addicted person can then talk to one of the treatment professionals at the drug rehab center to find out what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug rehabilitation centers are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will typically work with the individual to locate an equivalent or comparable rehabilitation program which is more affordable or that can provide workable financing options so that they can acquire the help they so desperately need.
