Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide range of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly beneficial in handling more serious cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on various circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on the root psychological and emotional issues.

Alternative Housing - Transitional Living

A halfway house is a transitional living facility where an individual who is trying to recover from drug or alcohol addiction can stabilize and re-adjust to life and society. A halfway house is a location where the person can feel secure and repair their life while recovering from addiction while also participate in activities which will help them do just that. Halfway houses are an ideal opportunity for individuals to be in an environment where they can receive further counseling and different types of therapy while also learning new trades or discovering stable employment so that they can support a healthy and drug free lifestyle.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol rehabilitation programs which are offered on an outpatient basis are available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient rehabilitation facility. An outpatient drug and alcohol treatment program offers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation facility where the person is required to remain at the rehab facility until the treatment process has been fully completed. Outpatient drug treatment is also available for those who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but also need a thorough aftercare program which will offer additional support and treatment to help them avoid relapse.

Residential Long-Term Treatment that is 30 days or longer

Attending a residential long-term treatment facility (more than 30 days) is the best way ofaddressing a serious substance abuse problem. This type of drug rehab facility is more intensive than others that only last a few weeks or those where the client is free to come and go as they please. Choosing a residential long-term treatment program (more than 30 days) means that you as the client will live at the rehabilitation facility around the clock while you are in recovery. While offering a more relaxed home-like environment the person has access to treatment professionals at all times. Long term drug or alcohol rehabilitation programs are an excellent choice for those who have a long history of addiction or who have had other unsuccessful attempts at drug or alcohol treatment in the past.

Men Only

Drug and alcohol rehab facilities created exclusively for men are emerging across the nation. Although rehab facilities that treat both men and women continue to be the standard for drug rehabilitation, many rehab facilities are developing programs intended to help a specific target group. These facilities are able to focus on what their client's individual needs are in a way that standard facilities cannot provide. Although these specialized types of rehabilitation programs may not be necessary for all recovering addicts, many men are selecting men-only addiction treatment centers. This recovery option is ideally suited for those who feel more comfortable among others of the same sex when discussing private and often difficult memories from the past. Recovering from addiction is a challenging process for every addict and finding comfort among one's peer group is a very good way of getting the support needed to make the process that much more endurable.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment substance abuse rehabilitation centers are an outstanding alternative to other types of treatment centers i.e. private medical insurance and state funded facilities. People who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehab process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug treatment program. In order to learn more about self payment at a specific program, contact a drug rehab program and ask about their payment options. It is beneficial to contact several programs so that you have a comparison of your choices regarding rehab options and payment methods.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is made available to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid is dependent on income and other circumstances including whether or not the individual has dependents and if they receive any other assistance. Medicaid may possibly even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol rehab, and there are many drug and alcohol rehab centers throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Many drug treatment facilities which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only deliver such treatment on a short term basis, usually 30 days or less. People who have Medicaid should research which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full rewards of such a program.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

Some individuals are covered through state financed insurance because they do not qualify for Medicaid. Some states however offer affordable health insurance to those who cannot afford private health insurance. State financed health insurance programs will in some cases cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a wide variety of drug and alcohol treatment centers around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both outpatient or inpatient substance abuse rehab services. To find out which rehabilitation programs will accept state financed insurance, consult a drug and alcohol treatment professional.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

When a person is abusing drugs or alcohol and is looking for help, there are many effective drug treatment facilities accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term programs accept private health insurance, far more effective drug treatment centers which offer an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These treatment programs which accept private health insurance can vary in terms of treatment curriculum, but those people who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to attending a drug rehab facility. For more information, consult with a treatment professional at a substance abuse rehabilitation program in your area to see which services your private health insurance will cover.
