Hospital Inpatient Programs

Hospital inpatient substance abuse treatment is performed in a hospital or similar setting and is overseen by doctors and other medical staff. Hospital inpatient treatment is sometimes necessary in the beginning stages of abstinence when the client may encounter the onset of life threatening withdrawal symptoms, which is sometimes true when quitting alcohol as well as a category of prescription drugs known as benzodiazepines which should be supervised very carefully by medical professionals in case of any complications. Hospital inpatient treatment is also delivered to individuals who choose to undergo medication assisted withdrawal, as is the case with opiate addicted individuals who wish to use this type of detoxification approach to avoid the harsh withdrawal symptoms associated with heroin or other opiate withdrawal. This type of opiate detoxification is not treatment in itself however, and these individuals will need additional counseling and therapy to entirely recover from addiction.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol rehab programs which are delivered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient rehabilitation program. An outpatient drug rehabilitation center provides many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug rehabilitation center where the person is expected to remain at the rehab center until the treatment process has been fully completed. Outpatient drug treatment is also available for individuals who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but also need a thorough aftercare and relapse prevention program which will offer further support and treatment to help them remain clean and sober.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug and alcohol rehab programs are an outstanding alternative to other types of rehab facilities i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. People who are able to attend self payment programs pay for their entire rehab process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug or alcohol rehabilitation program. To learn more about self payment at a specific program, contact a substance abuse rehab program and ask about their payment options. It is a good idea to contact a number of facilities so that you have an understanding of your choices with regards to rehab options and payment options.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is offered to people in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid is dependent on income and other factors such as whether or not the individual has dependents and if they receive any other assistance. Medicaid may even cover the costs associated with drug treatment, and there are many drug treatment centers throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Many drug and alcohol rehab facilities which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only deliver such treatment on a short term basis, usually 30 days or less. Individuals who have Medicaid should look for which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to reap the full benefits of such a program.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

State financed health insurance programs will in some cases cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a variety of drug treatment centers around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both inpatient or outpatient substance abuse rehab services. To find out which rehab programs will accept state financed insurance, speak with a drug treatment specialist.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

If a person is abusing drugs or alcohol and is looking for help, there are many effective drug rehab facilities accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term rehab facilities accept private health insurance, far more beneficial drug treatment centers which provide an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These treatment programs which accept private health insurance can vary in terms of treatment curriculum, but those people who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to attending a drug or alcohol rehabilitation facility. For more information, consult with an addiction specialist at a drug treatment center in your area to see which programs your private health insurance will cover.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many drug and alcohol rehab facilities in the United States provide payment assistance to men and women suffering with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The person in need of rehabilitation can choose a rehab program which ideally fits their situation, meaning the treatment curriculum and design of the program will provide them the best results. The addicted individual can then talk to one of the treatment professionals at the drug rehabilitation program to talk about what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug and alcohol rehab facilities are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will typically work with the individual to locate an equivalent or similar treatment program which is more affordable or that can provide workable financing options so that they can get the rehabilitation they so desperately need.
