Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a type of recovery program which works to treat substance abuse issues and mental health conditions which may be co-occurring. In a PHP program, the individual in treatment participates in various recovery activities and techniques during the day and then returns home in the evening. This is done anywhere from five to seven days a week, depending on the seriousness of the problem. Partial Hospitalization can be helpful for addicted individuals who cannot afford long-term inpatient care, or who are unable to be away from their families for extended periods of time. While in Day Treatment, individuals participate in typical counseling and therapy for addiction issues while also addressing mental health troubles which could keep them from staying sober once treatment is complete.

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues if there is any hope for them to become fully rehabilitated. Medicaid may even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol rehabilitation, and there are many drug and alcohol rehab programs throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Many drug rehab facilities which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only provide such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. People who have Medicaid should research which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full benefits of a Medicaid rehab program.
