Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide variety of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be done on an outpatient basis, where the individual will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly beneficial in handling more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on different circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then focus on the root psychological and emotional issues.

Detoxification

Detoxification is usually the first step in getting off drugs. It enables a particular person to be in a supervised environment while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are different types of detoxification. Theyvary from drug-free to medically supervised. A prevalent mistake that quite a few addicts make is to feel that detox is enough to kick their habit. This is seldom the case. All detox does is get someone through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is at all times recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to discover the root of why somebody was using drugs in the first place.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehabilitation services which are provided on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient rehabilitation center. An outpatient substance abuse rehab program provides many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug rehab program where the person is required to remain at the treatment facility until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehab is also available for individuals who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but also need a thorough aftercare program which will provide additional support and treatment to help them remain clean and sober.

Residential Short-Term Treatment that is 30 days or less

Residential short-term treatment for substance abuse is a variety oftreatment program where the addicted individual will remain at the facility on an inpatient basis, and which typically demands a stay of 30 days or less. While in residential short-term treatment the recovering addict undergoes an intensive but short duration of treatment that usually includes a supervised detox, counseling, and other forms of therapy which are aimed at helping the person become rehabilitated and able to function without drugs in daily life once rehabilitation is complete. Residential short-term treatment is not always effective for all instances of addiction, and most will require an aftercare program or further treatment in a more long-term residential facility.

Residential Long-Term Treatment that is 30 days or longer

Enrolling into a residential long-term treatment facility (more than 30 days) is the best way ofresolving a serious substance abuse problem. This type of substance abuse rehab program is more comprehensive than others that only last a few weeks or those where the person in recovery is free to come and go as they please. Attending a residential long-term rehab program (more than 30 days) means that you as the client will stay at the rehabilitation center around the clock while you are in recovery. While offering a more relaxed home-like atmosphere the individual has access to treatment professionals at all times. Long term drug rehab centers are an ideal choice for those who have a long history of substance abuse or who have had other unsuccessful attempts at recovery in the past.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug rehab facilities are a great alternative to other types of rehabilitation facilities i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. Individuals who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehab process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug treatment program. To learn more about self payment programs, make contact with a substance abuse treatment center and ask about their payment options. It is a good idea to contact several facilities so that you have a comparison of your choices regarding treatment options and payment options.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

If somebody is abusing drugs or alcohol and is looking for help, there are many effective drug rehab facilities accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term rehab facilities accept private health insurance, far more beneficial drug treatment centers which provide an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These programs which accept private health insurance can differ in terms of treatment curriculum, but those individuals who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug treatment facility. For more information, consult with an addiction specialist at a drug or alcohol rehab center in your area to see which services your private health insurance will cover.
