Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide range of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be carried out on an outpatient basis, where the individual will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to reside in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly helpful in resolving more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on various circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the individual physically rehabilitated, and then focus on underlying psychological and emotional issues.

Detoxification

Detoxification is generally the 1st step in getting off drugs. It makes it possible for an individual to be in a supervised setting while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are various types of detoxification. Theyrange from drug-free to medically supervised. A frequent mistake that quite a few addicts make is to feel that detox is sufficient to kick their habit. This is seldom the case. All detox does is get an individual through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is always recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to learn the root of why an individual was using drugs in the first place.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehab services which are delivered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient rehab program. An outpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation center delivers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment facility where the person is required to stay and reside at the rehab program until treatment is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation is also offered for those who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but require a thorough aftercare program which will offer further support and therapy to help them remain clean and sober.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment substance abuse rehab programs are an outstanding alternative to other types of treatment centers i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. People who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehab process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug rehab program. To learn more about self payment programs, make contact with a substance abuse rehab facility and ask about their payment options. It is a good idea to contact several programs so that you have an understanding of your choices regarding rehab options and payment options.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is made available to people in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid depends greatly on income and other factors including whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may even cover the costs associated with drug rehabilitation, and there are a lot of drug and alcohol rehab centers throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Most drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which are covered through Medicaid may only deliver a limited treatment curriculum and may only provide such treatment on a short term basis, usually 30 days or less. People who have Medicaid should look for which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to reap the full benefits of a Medicaid rehab program.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

Some people are covered through state financed insurance because they fail to meet the eligibility requirements for Medicaid. Some states however offer state financed health insurance to those individuals who cannot afford private health insurance. State financed health insurance programs will in some cases cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a variety of drug treatment programs around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both outpatient or inpatient drug rehabilitation providers. To find out which rehab facilities will accept state financed insurance, consult a drug and alcohol treatment advisor.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

If someone is addicted to drugs or alcohol and is looking for help, there are many effective drug or alcohol treatment facilities accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term rehab facilities accept private health insurance, far more beneficial drug rehab facilities which provide an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These programs which accept private health insurance can vary in terms of treatment curriculum, but those individuals who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug rehabilitation program. For more information, speak with with an addiction specialist at a drug or alcohol rehabilitation center in your area to find out which programs your private health insurance will cover.
