  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • Heroin users who snort or smoke the drug often graduate to injection because their bodies become conditioned to the drug and the effects become less intense.
  • Ecstasy causes a significant increase in serotonin in the brain, a major neurotransmitter involved in regulating mood, sleep, pain, emotion, and appetite, as well as other behaviors.
  • Chemicals which result as a byproduct of methamphetamine production are often poured into nearby plumbing, down storm drains, or directly into the ground which results in toxic health hazards.
  • Fentanyl is sometimes sold as heroin, which has led to many overdoses.
  • When cocaine is smoked or used intravenously, it greatly increases the risk of a potentially fatal overdose due to respiratory or coronary complications.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol rehab programs which are delivered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient treatment program. An outpatient substance abuse rehab program offers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug rehab center where the person is expected to stay and reside at the rehabilitation center until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug rehabilitation is also offered for individuals who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but also need a comprehensive aftercare and relapse prevention program which will provide additional support and treatment to help them remain clean and sober.
