Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment is offered in a wide variety of distinct treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the individual to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly helpful in handling more serious cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on unique circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the individual physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on underlying psychological and emotional issues which will help them avoid relapse in the future.

Detoxification

Detoxification is usually the initial step in getting off drugs. It permits a particular person to be in a supervised setting while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are diverse types of detoxification. Theyvary from drug-free to medically supervised. A typical mistake that many addicts make is to think that detox is sufficient to kick their habit. This is almost never the case. All detox does is get somebody through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is usually recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to discover the root of why an individual was using drugs in the first place.

Residential Long-Term Treatment that is 30 days or longer

Attending a residential long-term treatment facility (more than 30 days) is the best way ofresolving a serious drug or alcohol addiction problem. This type of drug and alcohol treatment facility is more intensive than others that only last a few weeks or those where the client is free to come and go as they please. Attending a residential long-term rehab program (more than 30 days) means that you as the client will live at the treatment facility around the clock while you are in recovery. While providing a more relaxed home-like setting the client has access to treatment professionals at all times. Long term drug rehab programs are an ideal choice for those who have a long history of addiction or who have had other unsuccessful attempts at recovery in the past.

Men Only

Drug and alcohol treatment facilities made exclusively for men are rising up across the country. While rehab facilities that work with both men and women are still the standard for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, many rehab facilities are developing programs designed to help a particular target group. These facilities are able to focus on what their client's particular needs are in a way that standard programs are not. Although these specialized types of rehab programs are not necessary for all recovering addicts, many men are deciding on men-only addiction rehab programs. This recovery option is excellent for those who feel more comfortable among others of the same sex when sharing private and often difficult memories from the past. Recovering from addiction is a difficult process for every addict and finding comfort among one's peer group is a very good way of receiving the support needed to make the process that much more endurable.

Criminal Justice Client Programs

Criminal justice clients typically need substance abuse rehabilitation because of their problems with drug and alcohol abuse. Due to the nature of the criminal justice system, there are specific steps and guidelines that must be completed in order to be admitted into a criminal justice substance abuse treatment program or recovery program. The initial step is to determine the criminal justice clients eligibility. This step is completed by a panel of officials who decide how much and what type of drug is necessary. Sometimes, the criminal justice clients obtain their substance abuse treatment while they are incarcerated. For optimum results, they are encouraged, if not strictly directed, to continue their recovery process once they leave jail and enroll in sober living or a long-term residential transitional living program.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many substance abuse rehabilitation centers in the United States provide payment assistance to people suffering with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The individual in need of rehabilitation can choose a rehab program which is a good fit, meaning the treatment plan and design of the program would provide them the best results. The addicted individual can then talk to one of the treatment professionals at the drug rehabilitation center to talk about what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug rehabilitation programs are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will typically work with the person to locate an equivalent or similar rehabilitation program which is more affordable or that can provide workable financing options so that they can acquire the rehabilitation they so desperately need.
