Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment is offered in a wide range of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the individual will typically participate in treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to reside in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly helpful in handling more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on unique circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on underlying psychological and emotional issues.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehab programs which are offered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient rehabilitation center. An outpatient drug rehab facility delivers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment facility where the individual is required to stay and reside at the rehabilitation center until treatment is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol treatment is also available for individuals who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a thorough aftercare program which will provide further support and therapy to help them remain clean and sober.

Women Only

Recovery from drug or alcohol addiction is a process that can be difficult and in manyways intimidating. This is why some women seeking recovery feel more comfortable in treatment facilities created specifically for women. Women who are addicted to drugs or alcohol oftenhave personal issues that are considerably different than that of males. In a drug or alcohol treatment facility where all the clients are women, the recovering addict will feel more relaxed and will be able to share her personal issues that led to her substance abuse and addiction problems. Statistics show that up to seventy percent of women with addiction problems report having some type of sexual or physical abuse in their past. These sensitive issues are easier to address in the company of other women without fear of judgment or ridicule.

Men Only

Drug and alcohol rehab programs made specifically for men are emerging across the country. Although rehab programs that work with both men and women are still the standard for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, many rehab facilities are developing programs designed to help a specific target group. These centers are able to focus on what their client's particular needs are in a way that standard programs are not. While these specialized types of rehab programs are not necessary for all recovering addicts, many men are deciding on men-only drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities. This treatment option is ideally suited for those who feel more comfortable among others of the same sex when sharing private and often difficult memories from the past. Recovering from addiction is a difficult process for every addict and finding comfort among one's peer group is an excellent way of receiving the support needed to make the process that much more endurable.

Dui/Dwi Offender Programs

DUI/DWI offenders are usually required to enroll in a certain number of hours either in counseling, meetings or a drug or alcohol rehab program. Each state has its own requirements when it comes to sentencing for the DUI/DWI offender. Offenders who are considered to be low to moderate DUI/DWI offenders will typically engage in some form of group counseling or therapy. These meetings are usually held by a professional in the field of addiction recovery or a person with long-term sobriety involved in the Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous groups. DUI/DWI offenders considered to be serious offenders will likely have to serve jail time at a minimum before beginning their assigned counseling or substance abuse rehab program.

Criminal Justice Client Programs

Criminal justice clients typically need drug or alcohol treatment because of their problems with drug and alcohol abuse. Due to the nature of the criminal justice system, there are specific steps and guidelines that must be performed in order to be accepted into a criminal justice drug or alcohol rehab program or recovery program. The initial step is to determine the criminal justice clients eligibility. This step is completed by a panel of officials who decide how much and what type of drug or alcohol is necessary. Sometimes, the criminal justice clients receive their drug treatment while they are incarcerated. For the best possible results, they are encouraged, if not strictly directed, to continue their recovery process once they leave jail and enroll in sober living or a therapeutic community.

People who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehabilitation process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is offered to people in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid depends greatly on income and other circumstances including whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may possibly even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol treatment, and there are a lot of drug treatment programs throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Many drug and alcohol rehab facilities which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only supply such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. People who have Medicaid should research which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full rewards of such a program.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both outpatient or inpatient substance abuse rehab providers. To find out which rehabilitation facilities will accept state financed insurance, speak with a drug treatment advisor.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

If somebody is addicted to drugs or alcohol and is looking for help, there are many effective drug or alcohol treatment programs accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term rehab facilities accept private health insurance, far more effective drug or alcohol rehab centers which provide an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These programs which accept private health insurance can differ in terms of treatment curriculum, but those people who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug or alcohol rehabilitation facility. For additional information, consult with an addiction specialist at a drug or alcohol rehab facility in your area to see which services your private health insurance will cover.

Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug rehab can be a challenge, because typically all resources have been exhausted due to their drug habit. Many drug treatment programs fully grasp this reality which is why many drug rehabilitation facilities around the country offer payment options known as a sliding scale fee. There are several variables put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug rehab facilities would rather find a way to make it work financially so that those that need addiction help can receive the help they need.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many drug and alcohol rehab facilities in the United States provide payment assistance to individuals having difficulties with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The person in need of rehabilitation can select a treatment facility which is a good fit, meaning the treatment plan and design of the program would provide them the best results. The addicted individual can then consult with one of the treatment professionals at the drug rehab facility to talk about what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will typically work with the person to locate an equivalent or similar rehab facility which is more affordable or that can provide workable financing options so that they can get the rehabilitation they so desperately need.
