Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol treatment services which are provided on an outpatient basis are available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient treatment program. An outpatient drug and alcohol treatment center offers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug treatment center where the person is required to remain at the rehabilitation center until treatment has been fully completed. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehab is also available for those who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but require a thorough aftercare program which will provide additional support and therapy to help them avoid relapse.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug and alcohol treatment facilities are an excellent alternative to other types of rehabilitation facilities i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. People who are able to attend self payment programs pay for their entire rehabilitation process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug treatment program. To learn more about self payment programs, contact a drug or alcohol rehab program and ask about their payment options. It is a good idea to contact several facilities so that you have a comparison of your choices with regards to rehab options and payment methods.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is made available to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid depends greatly on income and other factors such as whether or not the individual has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may possibly even cover the costs associated with drug rehabilitation, and there are many drug and alcohol treatment facilities throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Many drug rehab facilities which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only provide such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. People who have Medicaid should explore which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full rewards of a Medicaid rehab program.

Medicare Coverage

Drug addiction and alcoholism affects many older Americans and seniors, and this problem is projected to only worsen in the coming years. Seniors who are covered through the Medicare program, an insurance program funded through the federal government for Americans in this age bracket, can use their Medicare benefits to receive treatment services for drug or alcohol addiction at a variety of drug treatment programs around the country. Medicare covers both inpatient and outpatient treatment facilities, and seniors who wish to receive help can consult with their primary care physician to choose a rehab program covered by Medicare which would be suitable for them.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

Some people are covered through state financed insurance because they do not qualify for Medicaid. Some states however offer affordable health insurance to those who cannot afford private health insurance plans. State financed health insurance programs will in some cases cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a wide variety of drug rehabilitation programs around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both inpatient or outpatient substance abuse treatment providers. To find out which rehabilitation programs will accept state financed insurance, speak with a substance abuse treatment specialist.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

When an individual is addicted to drugs or alcohol and is seeking help, many effective substance abuse treatment programs accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term rehab facilities accept private health insurance, far more effective drug or alcohol rehab centers which provide an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These rehab facilities which accept private health insurance can vary in terms of treatment curriculum, but those clients who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug or alcohol treatment program. For more information, speak with with a treatment professional at a drug or alcohol rehab facility in your area to see which services your private health insurance will cover.

Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug or alcohol rehabilitation can be a challenge, because typically all resources have been exhausted because of the persons addiction. Many drug rehab programs understand this fact which is why many drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities across the nation offer payment arrangements known as a sliding scale fee. There are various variables put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug and alcohol treatment programs would rather find a way to make it work financially so that those suffering with addiction can get the help they need.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many substance abuse treatment programs in the United States provide payment assistance to men and women having difficulties with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The individual in need of rehabilitation can select a rehab facility which ideally fits their situation, meaning the treatment curriculum and design of the program would supply them the best results. The addicted person can then consult with one of the treatment professionals at the drug treatment center to talk about what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug treatment facilities are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will often work with the person to locate an equivalent or comparable treatment facility which is more affordable or that can offer workable financing options so that they can get the rehabilitation they so desperately need.
