Outpatient Treatment

Drug or alcohol treatment programs which are delivered on an outpatient basis are available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient treatment facility. An outpatient substance abuse treatment program delivers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation facility where the individual is required to stay and reside at the rehab center until the treatment process is complete. Outpatient drug treatment is also offered for individuals who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a thorough aftercare program which will offer additional support and therapy to help them avoid relapse.

Limited Hospitalization/Day Treatment Programs

Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a type of rehabilitation program which works to treat substance abuse issues and mental health conditions which may be co-occurring. In a PHP program, the person in treatment participates in a variety of recovery activities and techniques during the day and then returns home in the evening. This is done anywhere from five to seven days a week, depending on the seriousness of the problem. Partial Hospitalization can be helpful for addicted persons who may not be able to afford long-term inpatient care, or who are unable to be away from their families for prolonged periods of time. While in Day Treatment, clients take part in typical counseling and therapy for addiction issues while also addressing mental health problems which could keep them from staying sober once treatment is complete.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug and alcohol rehab programs are an outstanding alternative to other types of rehab facilities i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. People who are able to attend self payment programs pay for their entire rehab process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug treatment program. To learn more about self payment at a specific program, make contact with a drug or alcohol rehab center and ask about their payment options. It is a good idea to contact several programs so that you have an understanding of your choices regarding treatment options and payment options.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is made available to people in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid is dependent on income and other factors including whether or not the individual has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol rehab, and there are many drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Most drug rehab programs which are covered through Medicaid may only provide a limited treatment curriculum and may only supply such treatment on a short term basis, usually 30 days or less. Individuals who have Medicaid should research which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to reap the full benefits of a Medicaid rehab program.

Medicare Coverage

Drug addiction and alcoholism can effect many older Americans and seniors, and this problem continues to grow as each year passes. Seniors who are covered through the Medicare program, an insurance plan funded through the federal government for Americans in this age bracket, can use their benefits to receive vital treatment services for substance abuse at a variety of drug treatment programs around the country. Medicare covers both inpatient and outpatient rehab programs, and seniors who wish to receive help can consult with their primary care physician to choose a rehab program covered by Medicare which would be suitable for them.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

Some people are covered through state financed insurance because they fail to qualify for Medicaid. Some states however offer affordable health insurance to those individuals who cannot afford private health insurance. State financed health insurance programs will sometimes cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a wide variety of drug treatment facilities around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both outpatient or inpatient drug rehab services. To find out which rehab facilities will accept state financed insurance, consult a drug treatment advisor.
