Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide range of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment methods. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be performed on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically participate in treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to reside in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly beneficial in resolving more serious cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on various circumstances which can be different for each individual. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then focus on the root psychological and emotional issues.

Detoxification

Detoxification is typically the initial step in getting off drugs. It makes it possible for a person to be in a supervised environment while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are diverse types of detoxification. Theyrange from drug-free to medically supervised. A typical mistake that quite a few addicts make is to assume that detox is enough to kick their habit. This is almost never the case. All detox does is get someone through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is usually recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to find out the root of why an individual was using drugs in the first place.

Detox for Methadone

Methadone detoxification is a course of action which should be overseen by substance abuse professionals within a drug rehab facility who recognize how challenging and difficult methadone detox can be. Methadone detoxification is known to be far more severe in terms of symptoms and duration than even heroin detox, and users often revert back to methadone to alleviate withdrawal symptoms or, worse yet, turn to heroin or prescription opioids to alleviate symptoms. This is why methadone detox must only be done under strict supervision at a drug treatment facility which has experience in handling this type of detoxification, and where the person can receive additional recovery services to address all addiction issues.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug treatment programs which are offered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient treatment center. An outpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility offers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug rehabilitation facility where the person is expected to remain at the rehabilitation program until treatment is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation is also available for individuals who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a comprehensive aftercare and relapse prevention program which will offer further support and treatment to help them remain clean and sober.

Caters to Pregnant/Postpartum Women

When pregnant/postpartum women need drug or alcohol treatment there are several concerns unique to their situation that should be addressed. This particular group of addicted persons faces not only the personal shame of their addiction but also the reality of what their unhealthy choices may have caused their children. Recovery for pregnant/postpartum women typically requires facilities that are both individualized and flexible in their treatment plan. While the program duration may vary depending on the woman's particular needs it is understood that the longer a person participates in treatment the better their chance of a successful recovery. Many programs for pregnant/postpartum women can run long-term for six months or more.

Residential Beds For Clients with Children

Although residential beds for clients children is not as prevalent as other specialized types of drug or alcohol rehabilitation facilities, they are possible to find if you are in need. Back in 2007, the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services reported that 515 (14%) of residential substance abuse treatment centers supplied beds for both mothers and their children. There is a substantial benefit to both the mother and child who are able to attend recovery programs that provide residential beds for clients children. The parent is able to receive the drug addiction treatment they need while remaining close with their children through the treatment process of addiction recovery. Many parents (mothers in specific) do not want to admit that they need help with their addiction issuesbecause they fear that their children will be taken from them. Rehab facilities providing residential beds for clients children help to reduce this fear while supplying the proper care that both mother and child so desperately need.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are a great alternative to other types of rehab centers i.e. private medical insurance and state funded facilities. People who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehabilitation process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their substance abuse rehab program. In order to learn more about self payment programs, contact a drug or alcohol treatment program and inquire as to their payment options. It is a good idea to contact a number of facilities so that you have an understanding of your choices regarding treatment options and payment methods.
