Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment is offered in a wide variety of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be carried out on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically participate in treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to stay in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is particularly helpful in handling more severe cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on unique circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will focus on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then focus on underlying psychological and emotional issues.

Detoxification

Detoxification is generally the very first step in getting off drugs. It allows a person to be in a supervised environment while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are diverse types of detoxification. Theyvary from drug-free to medically supervised. A common mistake that a lot of addicts make is to feel that detox is sufficient to kick their habit. This is almost never the case. All detox does is get an individual through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is often recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to learn the root of why an individual was using drugs in the first place.

Alternative Housing - Transitional Living

A halfway house is a transitional living facility where an individual who is trying to recover from drug or alcohol addiction can find support and re-acclimate to life and society. A halfway house is a location where the person can feel secure and rebuild their life while recovering from addiction while also participate in clean and sober, productive activities. Halfway houses are the perfect opportunity for recovering addicts to be in an environment where they can receive additional counseling and different types of therapy while also learning new trades or obtaining stable employment so that they can support a healthy and productive, drug-free life.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehabilitation services which are provided on an outpatient basis are available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to participate in an inpatient treatment facility. An outpatient drug rehab program offers many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug rehabilitation facility where the person is expected to stay and reside at the treatment facility until treatment is complete. Outpatient drug or alcohol treatment is also offered for individuals who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a comprehensive aftercare and relapse prevention program which will offer further support and treatment to help them avoid relapse.

Co-Occurring Mental with Substance Abuse Issues

Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders must address both issues in order to become fully rehabilitated. Some individuals take drugs or alcohol to relieve symptoms of mental health complications, and some people take drugs which then, in turn, creates symptoms which mimic mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression. Drug rehabilitation professionals know how to differentiate between the two, and can work with clients to appropriately treat real mental health conditions in tandem with any other substance abuse treatment that is done with the individual. This has proven to be effective in keeping individuals with mental health disorders off of drugs and alcohol and mentally stable and productive.

Women Only

Recovery from drug addiction is a process that can be difficult and in a lot ofways intimidating. This is why some women seeking recovery feel more comfortable in treatment facilities designed specifically for women. Women who are addicted to drugs or alcohol oftenhave personal issues that are considerably different than their male counter parts. In a drug or alcohol treatment facility where all the clients are women, the recovering addict will feel more relaxed and will be able to share her personal issues that led to her drug abuse and addiction problems. Statistics show that up to seventy percent of women with addiction problems report having some type of sexual or physical abuse in their past. These sensitive issues are easier to address in the company of other women without fear of judgment or ridicule.

Men Only

Drug and alcohol treatment facilities designed exclusively for men are emerging across the country. While programs that treat both men and women continue to be the standard for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, many rehab centers are creating programs designed to help a particular target group. These centers are able to focus on what their client's individual needs are in a way that standard facilities cannot provide. While these specialized types of treatment programs are not necessary for all recovering addicts, many men are selecting men-only addiction rehab centers. This rehabilitation option is ideally suited for those who feel more comfortable with those of the same sex when sharing private and often difficult issues from the past. Recovering from addiction is a challenging process for every addict and finding comfort among one's peer group is a good way of receiving the support needed to make the process that much more endurable.

Dui/Dwi Offender Programs

DUI/DWI offenders are typically required to participate in a specific number of hours either in counseling, meetings or a drug or alcohol rehab program. Each state has its own requirements when it comes to retribution for the DUI/DWI offender. Offenders who are considered to be low to moderate DUI/DWI offenders will typically be required to participate in some form of group counseling or therapy. These meetings are typically held by a professional in the field of addiction recovery or a person with long-term sobriety involved in the Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous groups. Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are a great alternative to other types of rehab centers i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. People who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehabilitation process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their substance abuse treatment program. In order to learn more about self payment programs, make contact with a drug rehabilitation program and inquire as to their payment options. It is beneficial to contact several programs so that you have a comparison of your choices with regards to treatment options and payment methods.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

When an individual is abusing drugs or alcohol and is seeking help, many effective drug rehabilitation facilities accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term programs accept private health insurance, far more beneficial substance abuse rehab centers which require an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These programs which accept private health insurance can vary in terms of treatment curriculum, but those people who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to paying for a drug or alcohol treatment program. For more information, speak with with a treatment professional at a drug rehabilitation center in your area to see which programs your private health insurance will cover.

Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug or alcohol rehabilitation can be a problem, because typically all resources have been exhausted due to the persons addiction. Many drug treatment facilities fully grasp this fact which is why many drug and alcohol treatment programs around the country provide payment arrangements known as a sliding scale fee. There are many variables put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug treatment programs would prefer to find a way to make it work financially so that those suffering with addiction can get the help they need.
