Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide variety of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be carried out on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to reside in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is especially helpful in handling more serious cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on different circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will concentrate on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on underlying psychological and emotional issues.

Detoxification

Detoxification is generally the first step in getting off drugs. It enables a particular person to be in a supervised setting while they go through withdrawal symptoms for drugs and/or alcohol. There are diverse types of detoxification. Theyrange from drug-free to medically supervised. A widespread mistake that quite a few addicts make is to assume that detox is enough to kick their habit. This is seldom the case. All detox does is get somebody through the withdrawal when they stop using. It is at all times recommended that detox be followed up with some type of treatment plan to find out the root of why an individual was using drugs in the first place.

Detox for Methadone

Methadone detoxification is a course of action which should be overseen by drug addiction professionals within a drug treatment program who realize how difficult and challenging methadone detox can be. Methadone detoxification is regarded to be far more severe in terms of symptoms and duration than even heroin detox, and individuals typically revert back to methadone to relieve withdrawal symptoms or, worse yet, turn to heroin or prescription opioids to relieve symptoms. This is why methadone detoxification must only be done under strict supervision at a drug rehab facility which has practical experience in dealing with this type of detoxification, and where the individual can receive additional rehabilitation services to handle all addiction issues.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug rehab services which are provided on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted people who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient rehab program. An outpatient substance abuse rehabilitation program provides many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug rehab program where the person is required to stay and reside at the rehabilitation center until the treatment process has been fully completed. Outpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation is also offered for individuals who have completed residential or inpatient treatment but require a thorough aftercare program which will provide additional support and therapy to help them remain clean and sober.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug rehabilitation programs are a great alternative to other types of treatment programs i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. People who are able to attend self payment programs pay for their entire rehabilitation process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their substance abuse treatment program. To learn more about self payment programs, make contact with a substance abuse rehab facility and inquire as to their payment options. It is beneficial to contact a number of programs so that you have an understanding of your choices regarding rehab options and payment options.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is offered to individuals in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid is dependent on income and other factors such as whether or not the individual has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may possibly even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol rehab, and there are a lot of drug rehabilitation facilities throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Most drug and alcohol treatment programs which are covered through Medicaid may only deliver a limited treatment curriculum and may only deliver such treatment on a short term basis, typically 30 days or less. People who have Medicaid should explore which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to reap the full rewards of a Medicaid rehab program.

State Financed Insurance besides Medicaid

Some individuals are covered through state financed insurance because they fail to meet the eligibility requirements for Medicaid. Some states however offer state financed health insurance to those individuals who cannot afford private health insurance plans. State financed health insurance programs will in some cases cover the costs associated with substance abuse treatment at a variety of drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers around the country. State financed insurance other than Medicaid may cover both outpatient or inpatient substance abuse treatment services. To find out which rehab programs will accept state financed insurance, speak with a drug and alcohol treatment professional.
