Substance Abuse Programs

Substance abuse treatment takes place in a wide variety of different treatment settings with a variety of different treatment approaches. For example, some substance abuse treatment can be carried out on an outpatient basis, where the person will typically receive treatment during the day but is allowed to return home daily. Other substance abuse treatment requires the person to reside in a hospital or residential facility during the entire course of treatment, which is especially helpful in handling more serious cases of addiction. Inpatient and residential substance abuse treatment can be done on a short term or long term basis, depending on different circumstances which can be different for each person. Most substance abuse treatment will concentrate on getting the person physically rehabilitated, and then concentrate on underlying psychological and emotional issues.

Outpatient Treatment

Drug treatment services which are offered on an outpatient basis are readily available to addicted individuals who have circumstances which prevent them from being able to take part in an inpatient rehab facility. An outpatient drug treatment facility provides many of the same services as an inpatient program, but allows for flexibility as opposed to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment center where the person is required to remain at the treatment program until treatment is complete. Outpatient drug rehabilitation is also available for those who have already gone through residential or inpatient treatment but require a thorough aftercare program which will provide further support and therapy to help them remain clean and sober.

Women Only

Recovery from drug or alcohol addiction is a process that can be difficult and in a lot ofways intimidating. This is why some women seeking help with addiction feel more comfortable in treatment centers designed specifically for women. Women who are addicted to drugs or alcohol typicallyhave personal issues that are considerably different than their male counter parts. In a drug rehab center where all the clients are women, the recovering addict will feel more relaxed and will be able to share her personal conflicts that led to her substance abuse and addiction problems. Statistics show that up to seventy percent of drug abusing women report having some type of sexual or physical abuse in their past. These delicate issues are easier to address in the company of other women without fear of judgment or ridicule.

Criminal Justice Client Programs

Criminal justice clients often need drug treatment because of their problems with drug and alcohol abuse. Due to the nature of the criminal justice system, there are distinct steps and guidelines that must be performed in order to be admitted into a criminal justice drug or alcohol rehab center or recovery program. The first step is to establish the criminal justice clients eligibility. This step is accomplished by a panel of officials who decide how much and what type of substance abuse [[[rehabilitation is necessary. Often, the criminal justice clients receive their drug and alcohol treatment while they are incarcerated. For the best possible results, they are encouraged, if not strictly directed, to continue their recovery process once they leave jail and enroll in sober living or a long-term residential transitional living program.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug treatment programs are a great alternative to other types of rehab centers i.e. private medical insurance and state funded facilities. People who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire rehab process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their substance abuse treatment program. In order to learn more about self payment at a specific program, make contact with a substance abuse treatment program and ask about their payment options. It is a good idea to contact several programs so that you have a comparison of your choices with regards to treatment options and payment methods.

Medicaid Coverage

Medicaid is a type of health insurance which is made available to people in certain low-income tax brackets. Eligibility for Medicaid is dependent on income and other circumstances such as whether or not the person has dependents and if they receive any other financial assistance. Medicaid may possibly even cover the costs associated with drug or alcohol rehab, and there are many drug treatment programs throughout the country which are covered through Medicaid. Many drug rehab programs which are covered through Medicaid may only deliver a limited treatment curriculum and may only supply such treatment on a short term basis, usually 30 days or less. Individuals who have Medicaid should look for which programs cover the greatest amount of treatment for the most amount of time to acquire the full benefits of such a program.

Medicare Coverage

Drug addiction and alcoholism affects many older Americans and seniors, and this issue continues to grow as each year passes. Seniors who are covered through the Medicare program, an insurance plan funded through the federal government for Americans in this age bracket, can use their Medicare benefits to receive vital treatment services for addiction at a variety of substance abuse rehab facilities around the country. Medicare covers both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs, and seniors who are in need of treatment can consult with their primary care physician to choose a treatment program covered by Medicare which would fit his or her particular needs.

Private or Personal Health Insurance

If a person is abusing drugs or alcohol and is seeking help, many effective drug or alcohol rehab programs accept private health insurance. Whereas some outpatient and short term rehab facilities accept private health insurance, far more beneficial drug treatment programs which require an inpatient or residential stay for at least 90 days are also an available option. These programs which accept private health insurance can vary in terms of treatment curriculum, but those individuals who are covered by private health insurance are fortunate enough to have financial assistance when it comes to attending a drug rehabilitation program. For additional information, speak with with an addiction specialist at a drug or alcohol rehab facility in your area to find out which services your private health insurance will cover.

Income Based Payment (Sliding Scale)

Paying for drug or alcohol treatment can be a challenge, as all resources have been exhausted because of their addiction. Many drug treatment programs recognize this reality which is why many drug rehab facilities across the nation provide payment arrangements known as a sliding scale fee. There are various factors put into the equation of determining what the fee will be from person to person, and these factors are based on individual circumstances such as income, cash on hand, living circumstances, the size of one's family etc. Sliding scale fees have been in use for some time as most drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities would rather find a way to make it work financially so that those suffering with addiction can receive the help they need.

Payment Assistance (based on Facility)

Many substance abuse treatment programs in the United States offer payment assistance to individuals having difficulties with drug or alcohol addiction and want to get help. The person in need of rehabilitation can choose a rehabilitation facility which is a good fit, meaning the treatment curriculum and design of the program will offer them the best results. The addicted individual can then seek advice from one of the treatment professionals at the drug treatment program to go over what kind of payment assistance options are available or that they qualify for. The financial department in most drug rehab facilities are more than willing to work with potential clients to get them started by offering payment assistance, and if this is unavailable, treatment professionals will usually work with the individual to locate an equivalent or similar treatment program which is more affordable or that can provide workable financing options so that they can get the rehabilitation they so desperately need.
