  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • For certain magic mushroom users, even a very small amount is enough to propel them into full hallucinatory states, unpleasant stomach cramps or gas, and other high dose effects.
  • Heroin is sometimes mixed with other substances such as sugar, starch, or quinine, which puts unwitting users at risk.
  • Ecstasy users who have been studied have reported noticeable disruptions in sleep patterns as they ceased their Ecstasy intake, which is likely due to the fact that one of the many functions of serotonin is related to sleep regulation.
  • Fentanyl addicts often become involved in pharmacy robberies, shoplifting incidents, and health care fraud to get more of the drug.
  • Nausea can be an extremely dangerous drug overdose symptom, because many people have died from breathing vomit into their lungs (aspirate).

Criminal Justice Client Programs

Criminal justice clients often need substance abuse treatment due to problems with addiction. Due to the nature of the criminal justice system, there are specific steps and guidelines that must be performed in order to be accepted into a criminal justice drug or alcohol treatment center or recovery program. The first step is to determine the criminal justice clients eligibility. This step is completed by a panel of officials who decide how much and what type of drug or alcohol is necessary. Often, the criminal justice clients receive their drug and alcohol treatment while they are incarcerated. For optimum results, they are encouraged, if not strictly directed, to continue their recovery process once they leave jail and enroll in a sober living home or a long-term residential transitional living program.
