  • Drug Overdose Facts
  • According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, drug overdose deaths now outnumber traffic fatalities in the United States; the article concluded that this increase is mostly due to the significant increase in the number of individuals who abuse prescription drugs in this country.
  • About 25% of past-year illicit drug initiates in 2010 said their first drug was some form of psychotherapeutic (26.2 percent, including 17.3 percent with pain relievers, 4.6 percent with tranquilizers, 2.5 percent with stimulants, and 1.9 percent with sedatives).
  • The main cause of overdose death that results from opiates is related to depressed breathing, which can potentially lead to unconsciousness and subsequent death.
  • Ecstasy users often feel as though they are floating, which can interfere with motor coordination and result in falls and injury.
  • According to an epidemiologist for the Center for Disease Control, drug overdose death rates are currently more than double what they were during the peak years of crack cocaine mortality in the 1990's, and five times higher than the rates during the year of heroin mortality peak in 1975.

Self Pay (Out of Pocket)

Self payment drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are an outstanding alternative to other types of rehab facilities i.e. private medical insurance and state funded programs. Individuals who are capable of attending self payment programs pay for their entire treatment process out of pocket. Keep in mind though, this does not mean that they will not have access to financial assistance if needed. It just means that self payment is their primary method of covering the cost of their drug or alcohol rehab program. In order to learn more about self payment at a specific program, contact a substance abuse rehabilitation program and inquire as to their payment options. It is a good idea to contact several facilities so that you have a comparison of your choices regarding rehab options and payment options.
